Prop Safety Guidelines
For the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of everyone attending our event.
1. General Costume Rules

Costumes must be convention-appropriate and family-friendly. (No excessive gore, nudity, or offensive symbols.)

Shoes are required at all times inside the venue.

Costumes should not restrict mobility or vision to the point of being unsafe.
2. Prop & Weapon Guidelines
Props are allowed, but must meet the following safety requirements:
✅ Allowed:

Foam, cardboard, plastic, and lightweight wood props.
-
3D-printed or resin props with no sharp edges.
-
Bows, staffs, or spears that are lightweight and with blunted ends.

Guns or futuristic weapons must have brightly colored tips (orange/yellow).
❌ Not Allowed:

Functional firearms, live ammunition, or realistic replica guns.

Metal swords, sharp blades, or heavy blunt weapons.
-
Pyrotechnics, fireworks, or open flames.
-
Projectiles of any kind (no firing arrows, BBs, nerf darts, etc.).

Overly large props that could block walkways or doors.
3. Prop Size & Handling

Maximum prop length: 6 feet (unless approved in advance).

Props must be easy to carry without dragging or hitting others.

Props must remain holstered, sheathed, or lowered when moving through crowded areas.
4. Behavior & Use

Props are for display only—no swinging, sparring, or mock fighting.

Always ask permission before posing with another person’s prop.
-
Staff or security may peace-bond (tag/check) your prop for safety.
5. Staff Authority

Press Play! staff reserve the right to inspect any costume or prop.

If a costume or prop is deemed unsafe, you may be asked to store or remove it.

Non-compliance may result in removal from the event for safety reasons.
6. Respect & Community Spirit

Cosplay is not consent—always ask before taking photos or touching costumes.
-
Be mindful of large wings, armor, or props in tight spaces.
-
Keep hallways and exits clear at all times.
